From the back of the insert that came with Taylor Swift's CD Fearless: This album is called Fearless, and I guess I'd like to clarify why we chose that as the title. To me, Fearless is not the absence of fear. It's not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. Fearless is falling madly in love again, even though you've been hurt before. Fearless is walking into your freshman year of high school at fifteen. Fearless is getting back up and fighting for what you want over and over again...even though every time you've tried before, you've lost. It's Fearless to have faith that someday things will change. Fearless is having courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even if you can't breathe without them. I think it's Fearless to fall for your best friend, even though he's in love with someone else. And when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they'll never stop doing, I think it's Fearless to stop believing them. It's Fearless to say "you're NOT sorry", and walk away. I think loving someone despite what people think is Fearless. I think allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor is Fearless. Letting go is Fearless. Then, moving on and being alright...That's Fearless too. But no matter what love throws at you, you have to believe in it. You have to believe in love stories and prince charmings and happily every after. That's why I write these songs. Because I think love is Fearless.Need you more explanation as to why I'm in love with this artist and CD? I think not. image from ljsecretTags: music, public, quotes

I got this from a facebook group I am a part of, POTS Dysautonomia Awareness. The Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino www.butyoudontlooksick.com My best friend and I were in the diner, talking. As usual, it was very late and we were eating French fries with gravy. Like normal girls our age, we spent a lot of time in the diner while in college, and most of the time we spent talking about boys, music or trivial things, that seemed very important at the time. We never got serious about anything in particular and spent most of our time laughing. As I went to take some of my medicine with a snack as I usually did, she watched me with an awkward kind of stare, instead of continuing the conversation. She then asked me out of the blue what it felt like to have Lupus and be sick. I was shocked not only because she asked the random question, but also because I assumed she knew all there was to know about Lupus. She came to doctors with me, she saw me walk with a cane, and throw up in the bathroom. She had seen me cry in pain, what else was there to know? ( Read more... )Tags: about me, public

( From The Prospector Issue Friday, March 9, 2007: 'A Cocktail of Pills' )My Letter to the Editor, Final DraftThe recent article “A Cocktail of Pills” is misleading and insulting to all those who take prescribed medications. The author fails to address that individuals prescribed psychiatric medications are done so as a result of chemical imbalances in their brains. These medications help them to function more normally. First, one of the alarming fallacies is the statement that situational depression is “thanks to the fact that we’re teenagers,” rather than acknowledging depression is a medical condition in which people internally react to events disproportionately. Although testing medication use for teens may be difficult, tests do exist and are valid. One must also remember that the relief the right medication can provide outweighs the possible negative side effects, such as nausea and stomach pain. Clearly, the doctor patient relationship is important. The only safe way to take any medication is with continual doctor follow-ups. In regards to the insensitive Marilyn Monroe medicine cabinet allusion, she was self-medicating by not using a safe dosage, whether or not her death was accidental or suicidal. Self-medication is a separate issue of drug abuse, not the typical side effect of being prescribed medication. Having depression or anxiety is serious business, a business that prevents teens from “having fun and loving life.” The article trivializes one’s depression by comparing it to an American Idol favorite losing. Not only is that comparison irresponsible, it neglects to recognize these matters as ones that are often, to the one experiencing them, matters of life and death. The author suggests our society too quickly turns to medications as a cure-all, in actuality the problem is the negative stereotyping and alienation of individuals who responsibly take drugs for serious mental health issues. Admittedly, teens have many issues, however, the added judgment this article suggests is both harmful and pointless.Tags: my writing, newspaper articles, public

I figured I would post the song that the lyrics in my new header are from for those of you who may not know, and the artist featured in the header IS my favourite singer :-) *Independence Day*~Martina McBride*Well she seemed all right by dawn's early light Though she looked a little worried and weak She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again But daddy left the proof on her cheek and I was only eight years old that summer And I always seemed to be in the way So I took myself down to the fair in town On Independence Day Well word gets a round in a small, small town They said he was a dangerous man Mama was proud and she stood her ground But she knew she was on the losin' end Some folks whispered and some folks talked But everybody looked the other way And when time ran out there was no one about On Independence Day Let Freedom ring, let the wight dove sing Let the whole world know that today is a Day of reckoning Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It's Independence Day Well she lit up the sky that fourth of July By the time that the firemen come They just put out the flames and took down some names And send me to the county home Now I ain't sayin' it's right or it's wrong But maybe it's the only way Talk about your revolution It's Independence Day Let Freedom ring, let the wight dove sing Let the whole world know that today is a Day of reckoning Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It's Independence Day Roll the stone away It's Independence Day* Tags: music, public

Footprints
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you the most you would leave me.
The Lord replied, "My song, My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
